This is the July/August edition of the Pfefferle Tire and Auto Service newsletter. I hope everybody is keeping cool!

In case you’re unaware, we now have two locations to service your automotive needs. Of course, there is our original location located at 479 Nilles Rd. in Fairfield. We have been operating this location for 16+ years now! There is also our new location on the west side of Hamilton located at 990 Main St. But there is one convenient website for both locations – www.pfefferletire.com.

This edition’s free oil change winner is Greg Bricking. Congratulations! You have earned a free full service oil change valued at $37.18!

At our Fairfield location, ASE certified master tech Roger Reed will be celebrating his 48th birthday on August 4th. Happy birthday Roger! Owner Cheryl Pfefferle is also celebrating her birthday on July 23rd. I don’t think she’d be too happy if I told you what year though! Jim Clark will have been with us for four years on July 6th. Thank you so much for your dedicated service! Chad Endress will have been back with us for one year on July 20th. Congratulations Chad!

In Hamilton, Billy Thomin will turn 28 on August 6th and has been with Pfefferle Tire and Auto Service for three years on July 23rd. Thank you and happy birthday Billy! Charlie Price will turn 51 on August 5th. Happy Birthday Charlie!

Right now, we are offering free vacation/trip inspections! If you are about to head out on a trip, make sure you get your vehicle looked at first to make sure it is running in tip-top shape. There is nothing worse than the headache of dealing with a car issue while on vacation. It is best to have an appointment to have this service done, but if it just hits your mind, stop on in and we’ll see what we can do to get this inspection done right away.

This is also the time of year to start thinking about your son or daughter’s car. Is he/she going away to college? Does he/she have a daily hefty commute to get to/from school? If so, I would recommend getting the vehicle inspected to see what kind of shape it is in. A stranded college kid is an unhappy one. With proper maintenance and service, we can save you time and money on more costly repairs. Give Steve or Jim a call in Fairfield at 829-1900 or Chris or Andrew a call in Hamilton at 894-0025.

Speaking of routine maintenance, having your oil and tires checked once a month is a good habit to get into. If you don’t feel like doing it, bring it to us. We’ll do it at no charge! Just like you, we want to keep your vehicle in good shape and make it last as long as possible.

Remember, when buying a new vehicle, you do not have to take it back to the dealer where you purchased the vehicle. You can bring your new ride to us for service. Getting your car serviced at Pfefferle Tire and Auto will not void the warranty if you’ve been told so. As long as you have receipts showing that you’ve had service done, your vehicle warranty will stay in tact.

Thanks for reading,

Chris Pfefferle

Hello everyone! This is the latest edition of the Pfefferle Tire and Auto Service newsletter. I write these newsletters bi-monthly and want to thank all of you for reading, I greatly appreciate it.

Free Oil Change Winner

Congratulations, Gary Gundlach is the winner this month of a free full-service oil change valued at $37.18!

New Look

Check out our hip, redesigned website. Michael Shawn McCabe of Gigglebox Ventures put it together for us and we love it! There is one link in particular on there that is really cool. Go to www.pfefferletire.com and check out the Car Care Advisor/AutoNet TV link. There are educational videos on the site about vehicles that pertain to vehicle repair and routine maintenance. It is a great tool if you really want to learn more about your car.

Birthdays

We have three birthdays this month. John Hardy, a new addition when our new location in Hamilton opened, turns 40 this month. John will officially be over the hill! Happy Birthday, John! Andrew Napier, who works the front counter at the Hamilton location, turns 28 this month. Shawn Stockhoff, who works in the Quick Lube at the Hamilton location, will turn 29 this month. Happy Birthday Andrew and Shawn!

Hamilton Grand Opening

We wanted to take this opportunity to thank the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, the City of Hamilton, Richard’s Pizza, and all of our customers who attended the ribbon cutting and open house at the Grand Opening of our new store on April 5. It was a huge success. A lot of people came out to support us and that means a lot to us. Some of our customers also won great prizes. Remember, our new location is at 990 Main St. on the west side of Hamilton. Tell your friends about our new state-of-the-art facility. Both of our locations now have ASE Certified Master Technicians on staff. Some of our new technicians also have a lot of experience with Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, GM, Saturn, and Ford. If you’re ever over that way, stop by and say hello!

Don’t end up stranded

The summer time is the hardest time of the year on your car’s battery. The hotter it is, the harder it is for your battery to start the car. Most batteries last between four and six years. How old is your battery? Stop in today for a free battery check and we’ll make sure you have smooth sailing all summer long!

Don’t sweat it out

If your air conditioning is not working, stop in for an air conditioning recharge. The normal price is $95 which includes labor, Freon (two pounds), and Freon dye. In the months of May and June, we want to offer this service to our preferred customers for only $75! All you have to do is mention this newsletter, and we’ll give you a $20 discount on air conditioning service. What we do is hook your vehicle up to our state-of-the art air conditioning machine and inspect the system. We then install two new pounds of Freon and Freon dye. Freon is a gas so we can’t see it leaking like other important fluids in your car. The Freon dye helps us detect where the leak is coming from in your air conditioning system. Sometimes all your car needs is some more Freon and the charge will last all summer. If it ends up blowing hot three months from when we charged, or three days from when we charged it; bring your vehicle back in and the dye in the system will expose where your air conditioning Freon is leaking from. It is no charge for this service.

Vacation Time

Stop by at your convenience for a free trip safety check. If you vehicle has greater than 80,000 miles on it, taking advantage of this special offer is a wise thing to do. Also, when your vehicle has that many miles on it and is loaded down with your family and luggage, the struts and shocks can affect the safety of your vehicle. An overloaded vehicle with bad struts and shocks can be hazardous. Worn struts and shocks will cause irregular tire and can decrease the stopping distance of a vehicle significantly. Through the end of May, there is a mail-in rebate deal on struts and shocks. Also, it is not a bad idea to have your wheel balance checked before you go. If your wheel balance is incorrect, it could cause an annoying vibration at 65 MPH or above. If you purchased your tires from us, we do not charge for a wheel balance check. If you did not purchase the tires from us, wheel balance is $30. Take advantage of these great deals while they last.

It has been a while since we’ve had snow like that, hopefully it’s through! I hope everyone made it through safe and sound. Hello spring, I know we’re ready for it here at Pfefferle Tire and Auto Service.

Winner of the free oil change is Bill Barrett, congrats Bill!

Birthdays

On April 2, I turn 28 years old. I can’t believe I am almost 30! On April 26, Charlie Wesley turns 42! Congratulations, Charlie and Happy Birthday!

BIG News!

We have some big news. On April 5, 2010 we are expanding. Pfefferle Tire and Auto Service are adding a second location on the west side of Hamilton at 990 Main Street. We are very excited about the new store. We feel we will be better equipped to serve Butler County by having this second location. Please let your friends and family in Hamilton know that we will be there for all of their automotive service needs.

New store hours beginning April, 5 2010 at both locations: Monday-Friday 7:30AM – 6:00PM Saturday 8:00AM – 2:00PM Closed Sunday.

Be Safe

With March and April come rain, and maybe a little snow. Hydroplaning is a common issue in the spring time and can be easily prevented. If you’re tires do not have enough tread on them, and you were to encounter a puddle, you could hydroplane. This would cause your car to lift from the road leaving you no control of your vehicle. Stop in and have your tires checked today to avoid a possible hydroplaning situation.

Potholes

After the salt has washed away off the streets, these pesky critters start popping up on the roads. Everyone hits these little gems. After your car runs over these holes repeatedly, it can throw your vehicle’s alignment out of whack. Our four-wheel alignment runs $60. For March and April, we are going to run a special of $50! Do your tires a favor and call and schedule an alignment today.

Spring Cleaning

Spring has almost sprung and at Pfefferle Tire and Auto Service we are ready to a little spring cleaning and hope you are as well. Bring your vehicle in for a free safety and maintenance inspection. We hope you give us the chance to go over your vehicle with a fine tooth comb to make sure it is up to speed on all its preventative maintenance and make sure there are no safety issues that need addressed. The more often you have the preventative maintenance performed, the less likely you are of having any potential safety issues with your vehicle. Book your appointment now online.

Automotive Warranties

I am sure you have the seen the commercials on television that speak about “stop paying for repair bills”. Be very weary of these companies. These companies make everything sound great when usually it’s not. Most times there is a deductible to be paid and most items you think would be covered are not. If you are very interested in purchasing one of these, do your homework or let us have a look at it before you buy it. We have no problem dealing with these aftermarket auto warranty companies. Be careful who you choose and where you hard-earned dollars go.

Air Conditioning

On the next warm day, sixty degrees or higher, try your air conditioning. If your vehicle gets nice and cold, your system is working properly. But if your vehicle isn’t freezing you out, the vehicle most likely has a Freon leak somewhere. If the Freon leaked out of the system over the winter, get your air conditioning repaired now and beat the rush of everyone else trying to get it fixed on those first hot days of the spring or summer.

Happy New Year! We are through the first decade of the new millennium. We at Pfefferle Tire and Auto Service wonder what’s on the horizon. Pfefferle Tire and Auto Service celebrated its ten year and fifteen year anniversaries in the decade. We also experienced many challenges and changes.

Cars are much more sophisticated now than what they were at the turn of the century. We used to keep 30 different tire sizes in stock, now we keep 90 different sizes in stock. Vehicles are very vehicle specific now but we can service almost all makes and all models. Continued training, constant improvement, and high quality technicians keep us on top of the auto service industry. We hope you continue to seek us for all of your auto service needs!

Chris Napier is celebrating his birthday on February 12th. He turns 31! George Kuchma is celebrating his three year anniversary with us on the same date, congratulations George! In other news, Chris Pfefferle was married on December 19th to his longtime girlfriend Kristin Ellsworth who he met at The Ohio State University.

With the start of the new decade, vehicles are still ever-changing. Service intervals: how often you bring your vehicle in for work, are decreasing. But, this also means when you do bring your car in for service, the prices and the amount of items you have serviced increases. It was easy to spread out routine maintenance and repairs in the past, but now service items are lumped together. We see your vehicle half as often as we used to. The prices of service have increased. For example, tires last longer than ever before. If your car is equipped with tire pressure monitor sensors, and someone steals a valve cap off of the valve stem (very common) the rain and snow can ruin that valve stem or tire pressure sensor. That can cost you up to $150! Something that used to cost $10 is now as expensive as $150. Times and technology change, we just want our customers to be prepared.

It is an industry standard for tire sales to slow down in the winter time. Many people put off buying tires because of the holidays. This is understandable. To counter this, tire wholesalers run specials throughout the winter months. Call us today 829-1900 and we will see if we can get you a bargain deal on some tires for your vehicle.

When you go out in the morning to your car, you expect it to start. The battery may seem fine, but is it? Let us electronically test your battery for free to make sure it is good. The battery in your car slowly decreases over its life. The last thing anyone wants is to be stranded on the coldest day of the year and be 50th in line for AAA. Stop in any time to have your battery tested.

It is recommended that in the winter months your oil is changed more often. Cold temperatures make your oil work harder. Dirty oil is thick and sludgy and does not get to the top half of the engine as fast where the valves are located. Semi-synthetic and full synthetic oil’s have additives in them to help with better cold-start protection. Protect your engine and investment by using synthetic oils or changing your oil more often in these colder months. We also offer free oil check and top-off for loyal oil change customers!

Stay tuned to the next newsletter for a huge announcement!

Chris Pfefferle, Manager

Greetings! This is the last edition of the Pfefferle Tire and Auto Service newsletter for 2009. The years seem to be going by quicker and quicker. We have a lot of exciting things going on here at Pfefferle Tire and Auto Service.

Charlie Wesley is celebrating one year with us on November 10. He began in the quick lube and has quickly earned a spot on the repair side considering his vast experience. Thanks for the service Charlie. We also have three birthdays in December. Jim Clark turns 49 on December 1. He is so close to that half-century milestone. George Kuchma celebrates his 53rd birthday on December 23. And Chad Endress turns 34 on New Year’s Eve. Happy Birthday to all of our faithful employees!
Chris Pfefferle is the 2009 recipient of the 2009 Tom B. Babcox Memorial Scholarship. Chris receives $1,000 for travel expenses to attend Automotive Service and Repair week in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are many expositions and training classes covering everything from running your business to fixing the toughest car problems. Congress of Automobile Repair and Service (CARS) are sponsored by the Automotive Service Association (ASA). Chris is currently working toward becoming an Accredited Automotive Manager (AAM) through the ASA.

With the holiday season fast approaching, old man winter is usually not too far behind. Bring your vehicle in for a free winter safety check. We will focus on the items that matter most for the cold weather. The colder weather means your car has to work harder. Is it up to par? Will it leave you stranded? Your battery, tires, and engine coolant are all vital things to successful winter driving. Let us check them for you today, free!

Always check our website and your e-mail for valuable coupons and money-saving opportunities. If you do need a coolant flush, mention this newsletter and receive $15 off, instantly! Valvoline will also give you some help in the form of a $10 come-back gift card. That is $25 in total savings. Take advantage of this great deal through the end of December.

The United States government recently placed a tariff on tires that are shipped from China. These tires that come from China carry an additional 35% fee in the first year, 30% in the second year, and 25% in the third year. Unfortunately, there is not one tire company that makes their tires exclusively in the United States. So every tire company is affected by this. We have not seen drastic price increases yet. Some of my suppliers are saying we could see tire shortages though. We recently brought in some over-stock of popular tire sizes. Get your tires today before we face a possible shortage or massive price increase. This is one of those situations I would recommend somebody to be pro-active.

Thanks for reading. We appreciate your business. Be sure to call or e-mail us if you have any questions or need prices on anything. Have a wonderful holiday season.

Our lucky winner of a free full-service oil change valued at $37.18 is Laverne R. Hall! Congratulations Laverne!

Thanks,
Chris Pfefferle, Manager

Jim Clark drew for the oil change contest this month. The winner of a free full-service oil change this month is Mary Kay Wentz! Congratulations Mary!

We have had a long-standing relationship with Valvoline, over ten years now. Most of the time, Valvoline runs specials on oil changes and flush services that offer the customer money back. In the month of May, we redeemed over $1600 worth of Valvoline comeback gift cards from our clients. These gift cards can be obtained by upgrading your oil from conventional to durablend, maxlife, or full synthetic. Also, any time that a flush service is performed, Valvoline is usually running some sort of offer on those as well. If you come in for service, ask us about what specials Valvoline is offering.

In July and August, Valvoline is actually running their best offer ever, again! It worked very well in January and February, so they are giving it another go. If you purchase a maxlife or full synthetic oil change in the next two months, Valvoline will give you a $25 comeback gift card to use on your next service. Your next service does not have to be an oil change; you can use that $25 on brakes or anything else while using other coupons. Take full advantage of the maxlife special in July and August to get your $25 gift card!

If you have not seen or heard the commercials yet, Valvoline is offering the industry’s first engine guarantee. Your engine can be guaranteed for 150,000 miles using conventional oil, 225,000 miles using durablend or maxlife oil, or 300,000 miles using synthetic oil. You have to your car signed up before it has 75,000 miles on it. This is a like free insurance policy for your engine! Go to www.valvoline.com for more details and the rules of the program. Contact me if you have any questions.

Remember us at Pfefferle Tire for all of your tire needs. The big retailers and discount tire stores may seem like the least expensive place to buy your tires from. Most times, they are not. Make sure you give us a ring before buying new tires. You will probably be surprised at our low prices. Also, you will usually get better value as we sell high quality tires at low prices. We can also get any tire you are after, it does not matter what brand it is, and we can get them all!

Is your air conditioning not working? Do you think it will cost too much to fix? Bring your car in for an air conditioning inspection. If your car is just blowing hot air, let us put Freon and dye in it for $95. If your vehicle has rear air, it is a little higher. After we charge it, if a month down the road, the air is blowing hot again, bring it back for a free inspection. The dye works as a leak detector and we can then pinpoint where you’re air conditioning leak is coming from and give you an estimate on repairs. If you have any questions regarding this service, please do not hesitate to call. Try this out: have your air conditioning serviced in July or August, mention this newsletter, and receive $30 off!

Thanks for your time,

In June, Chris Pfefferle is celebrating his fourth year as a full-time employee after graduating from The Ohio State University.

I want your opinion on something. We will soon be able to purchase oil called G-Oil. This is an environmentally conscience oil available in 5W20 and 5W30; 95% of the cars we service take these two oil grades. G-Oil is made from American grown base oils and is the green alternative to other oils. I have no idea on pricing yet, but it seems this company is “green” and looking out for our environment. Please e-mail your thoughts on this oil and if you think Pfefferle Tire should offer this as a service to our customers. With enough responses, we will begin offering this option. (Source: www.getg.com)

There are a couple of maintenance items I want to focus on in May and June. If your car has over 100,000 miles and the radiator hoses have not been replaced, now is the time. Rubber hoses deteriorate over time. If a radiator hose were to fail you, it would most likely cause your car to overheat. Double check and see how old your radiator hoses are. Also, if you have not had your battery checked in a while, late spring is a good time to have it done. More batteries fail in the heat of the summer months than in the cold of the winter months.

Speaking of maintenance, are you considering replacing one of your vehicles with a new or used vehicle? If so, you may not have to. Bring it to us for a free comprehensive check. We will give you an honest opinion of what kind of shape your vehicle is in and whether or not it is worth keeping. We tell you frankly whether or not your car is worth fixing. We are here to service you, our customer. Remember, none of our technicians work on commission, so we will never sell you anything you do not need.

As of April 1, we are a Michelin T3 dealer. We can now acquire Michelin, BF Goodrich, and Uniroyal tires at competitive prices. Call today for a quote on tires and we promise the price will be right.

Loyal Subscriber Winner!
Our e-mail contest winner is Carmella Davis. Congratulations Carmella. She will receive a free full-service oil change valued at $37.17. Thanks to all of our loyal customers for participating.

2009 Anniversary Offer
We would like to offer you $15 off any mechanical work (not including oil change or tires). This offer will be open to you for the rest of the year. Mention our anniversary newsletter and we will immediately deduct $15 from your invoice.

Spring is just around the corner, and I’ll tell you, we at Pfefferle Tire and Auto are ready for it. I hope your 2009 is off to a great start. We know that times are tough. We’re going to try to make them just a little easier for you.

We have some exciting April dates to tell you about. Chris Pfefferle turns 27 on April 2nd, and Charlie Wesley celebrates his 41st birthday on April 26th. But on April 4th, we have the most important anniversary of the year going on, our 15th year in business anniversary! That’s right; we opened April 4th, 1994 and we are still here…stronger than ever!

To celebrate this milestone, we would like to offer you $15 off any mechanical work (not including oil change or tires). This offer will be open to you for the rest of the year. Mention our anniversary newsletter and we will immediately deduct $15 from your invoice.

Our e-mail contest winner is Chet Hard of Fairfield. Congratulations Chet. He will receive a free full-service oil change. Thanks to all of our loyal customers for participating.

We have some exciting new changes coming along. Starting March 1st, we will be offering a few new services. The first is our newly redesigned website. Shawn McCabe of Gigglebox Ventures has been hard at work getting this done for us. Check it out when you get a chance. There are more tools there for you to use to contact us. We will also begin offering vehicle detailing and hand car washes. A complete detail will start at $99 and go up from there depending on the size of the vehicle. A hand car wash will start at $20. We will perform these services on a drop-off and leave basis. Call (513) 829-1900 today to schedule an appointment for your vehicle’s spring cleaning!

Ask yourself, “How often do I get my oil changed?” If you answered “every 5,000 miles or more”, you may want to consider having your tires rotated every oil change. You also may want to think about switching to semi-synthetic or full synthetic oil. Tires should be rotated every 6,000 miles to achieve optimal wear. If you get tires rotated every 10,000 miles, you may be buying tires sooner. The choice is yours but you should and try and have your tires rotated at least every 6,000 miles. Let’s talk about this simple schedule the next time you stop in. It will save you money and improve safety for you and your family.

I keep reading that people are more likely to hang on to their cars now than they were in recent history. If this is your case, it may be in your best interest to come in for an inspection to see what kind of shape your car is in. For instance, if you come in for an oil change and we recommend that your power steering fluid and brake fluid need flushed, it may be worth spending the $130 now and saving you the money on replacing the power steering pump or brake calipers in the future, which can be $500 or more. If your maintenance needs are just a ‘mole hill’, it is better to do them sooner than later when the needs could be a ‘mountain’.

With that said; if your case is the proverbial mountain, keep in mind that we can prioritize your list of needs. A car does not always need every repair at the same time…I bet your dealer doesn’t talk that way…right? We can make life a little easier by putting your needs in order to be on track with your budget.

As we enter our fifteenth year our customers remain our top priority. How are we doing? Do you have any complaints to report to us? Is there anything we are doing wrong? How can we improve? Please do not be bashful and send me an e-mail or call (513) 829-1900 with any suggestions or complaints at all. We appreciate your thoughts and opinions and would love to hear from you. Thanks for your loyalty and enjoy your spring.

10 Tire Care Tips

  1. Don’t wait until it’s too late Make it a habit to check your tire pressure at least once per month and before every long trip. Under inflated tires causes excess heat build-up that can damage tires and lead to a failure.
  2. Know your pressure point The correct tire pressure is found on a sticker on the driver;s door, doorpost or owner;s manual NOT on the tire sidewall that;s the maximum pressure for the tire.
  3. Keep your cool To accurately measure your tire pressure, check tires when they are cold. Wait at least three hours after driving.
  4. Take care of your spare Check your spare tire each month and keep it properly inflated so it’s ready to go when you need it most.
  5. Penny for your thoughts A penny can tell you if your tire is bald. Place a penny upside down into a tread groove. If you can see all of Lincoln’s head, it’s time for a new tire.
  6. Keep yourself in line Be aware of potholes that can not only damage your tire but can also jar your car’s alignment.
  7. Pick a date and rotate Make sure you rotate your tires every 6,000 miles to promote uniform wear and longer tire life.
  8. Don’t take a spin without a cap Driving without your tire valve cap allows for a slow leak of air from the tire and eventual underinflation.
  9. Don’t lose your balance It is important to have your tire balance checked periodically to avoid irregular wear.
  10. Be a weight-watcher Overloading your vehicle stresses your tires and can lead to damage.
