Month of May
Special: A/C Recharge only $80
How is your air conditioning? Is it blowing hot air? Stop
in and see us for an A/C Recharge. The normal price is $95. Mention
this newsletter and pay only $80.
Hope everybody is enjoying the beautiful May flowers! This month we
are celebrating Brett Weilnau’s birthday. On May 22, he turns to that
ripe young age of 30! Congratulations Brett! Nathan Varns, our most
loyal Quick Lube Technician is celebrating his 8th year with us. Thank
you for the dedication Nathan!
I want to extend a thank you to all who participated in last month’s
survey. The responses are important to see what the consumer wants in
the ever changing automotive industry. It is a slow process to get things
going with the supplier; but once we are ready to go, you will be the
first to know!
There go the gas prices again! I know, it is enough to ruin a day, but
at Pfefferle Tire we have ways that you can combat these increasing
energy prices. We have touched on this issue in previous newsletters,
so I will just give a few quick reminders. Make sure you have your tire
pressure checked at least once a month. Low or over-inflated tires can
cause your car to lose up to 5 miles per gallon. Does your car need
a tune-up? Most cars these days need new spark plugs every 60,000 miles.
Are you ready for one? Replace your air filter every 6,000-12,000 miles.
Replacement depends on how dirty your filter is which depends on your
driving conditions.
We at Pfefferle Tire also perform factory maintenance. Don’t take your
car to the dealer and pay for an expensive 50,000 mile check. We can
usually perform the same service for half the price. And most of the
mileage checks our full service plus oil change covers anyway. You can
really save a lot of money by letting us perform your routine maintenance.
Ask us what needs to be done at a certain mileage and we can have an
answer for you in less than a minute with our sophisticated computer
system.
That is all for May. Have a great month!
Sincerely,
Chris Pfefferle

RUST: A NASTY FOUR-LETTER WORD
Source: Car Care Council
Henry Ford told buyers of his Model T they could select any color as
long as it's black. Today we see cars in any of 7,000 hues, including
shades of rust that won't appear on color chips in new car literature.
"Serious rust damage, including a hole right through the metal, can
begin with a minor scratch in a parking lot from a shopping cart," said
Rich White of the Car Care Council. "Steel is strong and lasts a lifetime
when it's protected, but when that protection is invaded, the metal
is exposed to the elements. That's when rust begins its invasion."
Cover paint chips as quickly as possible, White recommends. For a quick
fix until you can get some touchup supplies, dab a little clear nail
polish on the scratch. Touchup paint can be found for virtually every
vehicle ever built, including antiques. Use the paint code number shown
on the identification plate located on a door jamb, in the glove box,
under the hood, in the trunk under the carpet next to the spare or wherever
else the car maker has hidden it. The owner's manual will tell you how
to find it.
"Some uncommon colors will have to be ordered where auto parts are sold
or from the Internet. Also available are scratch repair kits including
everything needed from preparation to finishing a deep scratch," White
said.
Small dents can be fixed with paintless dent repair, a service found
either through local automotive suppliers, the classified section of
the phone book or on the Internet.
Like so many aspects of car care, preventive maintenance is much easier
and beneficial than corrective measures. Maintaining the original integrity
of the finish keeps the vehicle in "like new" condition. The basic rules
of body and paint maintenance apply:
Avoid parking in the hot sun; it can damage interior surfaces as well
as the exterior. Wash the vehicle frequently, including areas underneath,
with mild, safe products. Select and use cleaners and waxes carefully.
A cleaner that is effective for one type of finish could be disastrous
for another. Consult the vehicle owner's manual to be sure.
Always consult the vehicle owner's manual
for individual service schedules as manufacturer maintenance requirements
vary greatly.
